This modern coastal holiday home nestled in the heart of a Western Australia winery region, belongs to a young family. The brief was to design key pieces of statement furniture that were heavy, high quality and durable, and could not be easily moved.
The design of the outdoor dining table used solid teak for a robust hardwood finish and featured slab ends and a table centre split for a timeless and natural, yet solid, look to the outdoor dining space. The indoor dining space also featured a solid teak pitched table base, which provided a framework for a durable concrete top.
A TV unit was designed for the living space to complement selected furniture in the room. A low modern unit design was finished in two pack paint to the surrounding body, while perched on black steel legs, with the opening to the cabinet doors finished in natural oak timber veneer. The intention for the design aesthetic was for a clean modern minimal take on a classic 1950s feel for furniture form.
LVL timber was used in the design for some heavy box shelving units, offering a flexible arrangement while keeping the individual components strong and sturdy.
While the console designed for the main space landing also used natural LVL timber layering. This allowed for strength and sustainable properties, while creating a clean, natural and relaxed aesthetic that’s perfect for a modern holiday home.
